Keenan Johnston The Chasm's death metal is, in a word, elegant. This album (their second, from 1995) builds on the strengths of the previous with highly layered guitars (both acoustic and electric) and a somber atmosphere. The average track length of near 7 minutes reflects a focus on mood rather than speed or aggression, with frequent extended lead guitar passages being a cornerstone of these songs. If you're looking for death metal with some emotional weight, this should do fine. Favorite track: I, the Pastfinder.
